Renovated Birth Center
In 2015, we renovated our upstairs birth suite to include a new bathroom with shower and a continuous hot water heater for our birth pool during water births. Our birth suite is conveniently located in the same building as our Tower Grove office and just minutes from Illinois. It is a home-like suite with a comfortable bed, deep water birth pool, birth balls, and two different kinds of birth stools. The birth center is fewer than 10 minutes from two major St. Louis hospitals, making it a great choice for clients who want to be closer to a hospital.
Care in our Birth Center
Care during your birth includes the emotional and clinical support of two certified professional midwives. Though we use our knowledge of the birth process to monitor the health and well-being of mama and baby, our presence at births is usually hands off, intervening only as necessary or requested. We strive to create a calm, peaceful, environment for labor and birth, keeping lights and voices low in our birth center and avoiding unnecessary and intrusive medical routines. We focus on the prevention of issues through low-tech monitoring, maternal hydration, nutrition, and rest. While prevention is our primary strategy, we are prepared to respond appropriately with any complications that may arise.
After the birth, your midwives will typically stay with you at the center for 3-4 hours. After we leave, you are welcome to stay and recover at the birth center for up as long as you feel necessary. For those who live within an hour drive of the office, postpartum visits will completed as stated on the ‘What to Expect’ section. For those outside of this area, postpartum care will be set up as mutually agreed upon during your consultation.
Birth Center Fees
Costs for using the birth suite is the same as a home birth, $3000.00. Discounts are available to women who qualify for Medicaid. For families wishing to have services paid by their health insurance, we will assist you in billing them after the birth for reimbursement of your care.
